Mildred Vierra, Resident of San Jose, Mildred "Millie" Vierra of San Jose passed away peacefully with her son Ron at her side on April 2, 2013. She was 92 years old. Millie was born in Santa Clara, California on March 6, 1921 to Bartual and Julia Petric and raised on the family ranch in Cupertino. After graduating from Fremont High School, Millie became the loving wife of George Vierra, eventually settling down with him in the Cambrian Park area of San Jose, to create an inviting home for her husband and three sons. Millie’s cheerful ways and her talents for cooking and hosting festivities insured that she was always the favorite "mom" of all the neighborhood kids, and mothers. The mothers nicknamed her ‘the Mom of Leigh Avenue’. She was a creative person and, if not getting her hands covered with soil in her garden, she was canning, or making wonderful dinners and treats such as lemon pies, cookies and chocolate covered prunes. She was an excellent seamstress and made many of her sons’ clothes during their school years, and many beautiful outfits for herself. Her holiday decorations, especially Christmas, were legendary. But Millie’s true talent was for keeping people together by nurturing family communication and initiating family get-togethers with her large extended family. She loved people and was truly loved in return. She was a past member of the Centennial Bells 100 Grandmother Club of Sunnyvale, the Cupertino Historical Society, the Fremont High School Alumni Association and the Yugoslav Naperdak Club. She was preceded in death by her husband George, son Gary, sister Ann Hill, sister Dorothy Zeszutek and brother John Petric. She leaves behind son Ron, son George (Bobbie), daughter-in-law Jan, grandson Toby (Elishia), great-granddaughters Audrey, Rylee and Charlotte, grandson Jaggs, granddaughter Erin and nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be Fri. April 12th from 11am to 12pm at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N Winchester Rd, Santa Clara. Funeral will follow at 12:30 pm in the St. Clare Chapel in Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. A Memorial celebration for Millie will be held at a later date. The date and time will be announced via email and telephone. All Her family and friends are invited. Millie has requested that memorial contributions be sent to the American Heart Association.
