Part of the Greatest Generation, Joseph Nicholas Leon also proved himself to be the Greatest Dad by raising sons Nick and Rick, as well as grandchildren Richard (Kim), and Jo Anne. He was also very influence in his other granddaughter’s life, Gina(Mike) Dayieb.Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Angela DiSopa.
Along with his older brother Ray Leon, he ran San Jose Potato & Onion Distributers for 25 years, and was part owner of the popular San Jose Speedway.He took special delight in sharing his time with his great grandchildren, Maddox, Ezra, and Sage, sons of Richard and Kim Leon; and Jenna and Kayla, daughters of Jo Anne Brown, who fondly called him Gido. One of four children of immigrant parents, Nicholas Leon and Mary Ayoob, he was preceded in death by his siblings Alfred, Raymond, and Hazel.The Fourth of July was a special time to celebrate with friends and family by driving his Model T in the Chester Parade and Car Show. He looked forward to October for visiting and hunting with the Bedke family in Nevada and Idaho.
Joe was proud of his membership in the Elks, and the Tricarico Social Club, the oldest men’s social club in the Santa Clara Valley. Also, he was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. He will be missed by the extended families of Leon, DiSopa, Schiro, Paradiso, MacLachlan, and D’Antonio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joe Leon Scholarship Fund, c/o the Rotary Club of San Jose East/Evergreen, 1293 Curtiss Avenue, San Jose, CA 95125. Family and friends are invited for Visitation at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N. Winchester Blvd., Tuesday, March 12, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 11:00 AM, at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary. Interment Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.
