It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Dora Salazar at the age of 73. Dora was born in San Jose, California to Dora and Diego Salazar. Dora grew up in Santa Clara. She was one of the first in her family to graduate from college with a degree in Sociology and teaching credential from San Jose State University. Dora obtained her BCLAD Authorization to provide bilingual instruction in Spanish and later earned her Special Education credential from UC Santa Cruz. In over 40 years as an educator, Dora served many students in New Haven Unified School District and San Jose Unified School District. During her career, Dora helped some of the most challenging students and mentored many peers formally and informally. Dora was even honored as teacher of the year.
Dora was happiest when she was helping others. Dora was known for her infectious smile, love of dancing and storytelling, creativity, and persistence. Most of all Dora loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her family. Dora made many friends over the years and will be deeply missed.
Dora is survived by her brother, Diego Jr.; son, Sekou and her daughter, Thema; her three grandchildren, Ajani, Semira, and Adwin. She is predeceased by her parents, Diego and Dora Salazar and her sister, Cecelia Arroyo.
She will be laid to rest at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery on May 29th, 2021.
