Daniel Eugene Gisi

Daniel E Gisi, age 62, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2024. He was born on April 1, 1961 to Dwane and Dolores (Dauer) Gisi in Santa Clara. As an original family of the St. Justin Parish, he graduated from Catholic schools at St. Justin School in 1975 and Bellarmine College Prep in 1979. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from San Jose State University in 1982. While attending San Jose State, he met Jill Machado; they were united in marriage on September 1, 1985. He spent the next 25 years managing and implementing technology solutions for Silicon Valley companies, including 6 years at Adobe. His biggest risk came in 1999 when he joined a startup named Equinix as one of the first dozen employees; Equinix is now a Fortune 500 company. He helped Equinix build data centers around the country with expansions to Asia and Europe.

At the same time, he loved supporting his kids, especially with their soccer teams. Despite having never played soccer, he quickly learned the rules in order to start coaching, refereeing, and eventually moving onto managing their teams. With a career in management, it was an easy transition into managing the soccer league and then to volunteering at Santa Clara University in 2010 as Director of Operations for the Men’s Soccer Team. While enjoying his retirement, starting in 2020, he was afflicted with numerous health symptoms with no obvious cause. Over the subsequent 3 years, his health ebbed and flowed as doctors worked to identify his condition.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Jill; his children, Josh (Stephani) Gisi of Sacramento and Samantha (Keith) Parsons of San Jose; and one grandson.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11am at St. Justin Catholic Church, 2655 Homestead Road, Santa Clara. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Dan’s name.
