Chiyo was born and raised in Malta, Montana. She passed peacefully in her apartment in Roseville, California where she resided for a little over a year. She basically grew up and later worked in her family’s restaurant where she met her husband Bob, during the war. They were married in 1944 and enjoyed 66 years together, the majority of them in Sunnyvale. She was just shy of 91 years old. Chiyo was fun-loving and enjoyed a variety of interests including sewing, crochet, and making pickles and jam, which she loved giving away to her friends and family. She always seemed so youthful, perhaps because she was small in stature, but she worked hard. She helped Bob with the family farm responsibilities and helped run their produce store until they sold the business. She later passed out seafood salad samples at Costco for a family friend. She loved people and they loved her. She is survived by her sister Tula Handa, children Robin (Bonnie) Yamamoto and Shelley (Alan) Willsmore, grandchildren,Tass (Sheena) Souza, Brandon and Brodie Yamamoto, Robyn-Lyn (Michael) Evett, and Noah Willsmore; grandchildren Ellie, Lilah and Madilyn, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob and infant son, Roger; her father, Eiichi Ochitani, mother Isao Ochitani, brothers Jun and Bunjiro and sister Michi Ochitani. A memorial service will be held Sunday September 6, 2015 at 11:30 AM at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, Ca 95050.
