Charlie was born on November 24, 1933 to parents John and Georgia in the coastal town of Coquille, Oregon. The youngest of 4 children, Charlie grew up working on his fathers ranch. Spending many wonderful days hunting and fishing in the outdoors that he loved so much. At 17 years old, Charlie enlisted in the Army spending his 18th birthday in a bunker in Korea. After the war, Charlie spent the next 9 years serving his country in various communications jobs in Austria, Germany and the US.
Charlie continued his career in communications following his Honorable Discharge from the Army in 1962. He earned many accolades and awards during his 40-year career in the cable television products industry.
Even with a successful career, Charlie’s most personally rewarding times were spent in the outdoors enjoying his passions of hunting and fishing. He loved any river, bay or ocean where he could chase down that big catch and succeeded more times than you could count.
Charlie leaves behind his beloved wife Rita who he was able to spend the past 40 years of marriage enjoying life in Danville, California. They celebrated their latest anniversary on April 6th at their favorite spot; the ocean on the Monterey Bay peninsula.
He also leaves his children Steve Auer and daughter Carol Alves and her husband Rob. His stepchildren Randy Greco, wife DeDe, Chuck Terra, wife Marcea, Kimberly Halsey and her husband Randy who have also lost someone they have always considered their father.
His grandchildren Kevin Auer, Steve Auer, Rachael Walsh, Monica Grider, Christopher Auer, Matthew Auer, Patrick Auer, Stefanie Halsey, Keith Greco and Ashley Terra will miss the grandfather who was always teasing or telling a funny story. They now have the job of passing the stories on to the next generation, Charlie’s great grandchildren, Michael, Ean, Jasmine, Lorenzo, Faith and Destiny.
The family would like to thank the Jewish Home for the Aged in San Francisco and St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco for the caring and compassionate care Charlie received these past few months. Family viewing will be at 1 PM, Thursday, May 23rd at Lima Family Santa Clara with an Honor Guard service following at 2 PM at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. The family invites you to a Celebration of Life after the service at Mariani’s Restaurant, 2500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara.
