In loving memory of Anthony “Big Tony” Pietro Martino, brother, husband, father, leader, and our hero. Anthony was born in Brooklyn, NY, to the union of Rose and Ennio Martino, who both emigrated from Martzi and Naples, Italy, respectfully. He was the third child and oldest son of four children, and the family resided on Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn, NY. Anthony attended Erasmus Hall High School where he played football as a defensive lineman and graduated in 1960. He entered the United States Air Force after graduation and served in the Strategic Air Command. In 1965, Anthony met Margaret Catherine Sperduto of Queens, NY. The two fell in love and were married on September 30, 1967. The couple moved to Oxford, CT, where Anthony built their home. From 1968 to 1970, the couple had two sons, Ricky and Anthony (Little Tony).
The family relocated to the San Jose area in 1974 and enjoyed many camping and fishing trips. Anthony coached Moreland little league baseball and was an excellent resource to friends in the Strawberry Park neighborhood where the family resided. Anthony retired from Lockheed in 2005 after working on various aerospace programs as a Project Manager. In retirement, Anthony enjoyed spending time with his family including his grandchildren, Alena and Mario. Anthony became President of the Italian Men’s Club of San Jose where he worked with a number of charities in the community. Anthony was committed to his family, his community, and his country throughout his life.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Margaret, his sons, Ricky and Anthony, his grandchildren, Mario and Alena, his nieces Josephine Celeste and Maria, and his siblings Josephine, Mathilda, and Enrico. Services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11AM, at the Lima Family Mortuary, 466 North Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara, CA 95050.
