Longtime San Jose resident, Anthony David Ghiossi, age 49, passed away on June 10th after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Anthony was a rare man who was universally liked—a man’s man—handy with tools and toys alike. He experienced much success in his life, but nothing greater than in his role as a husband, father, and friend. Well-known for his work as a building official, Anthony worked for the Cities of Palo Alto, Los Gatos, and Mountain View for over 25 years. He was actively involved in the Peninsula Chapter of the International Code Council, a nonprofit organization of Bay Area building officials, where he served as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, President, and Past President. His work on the ICC board was a source of constant pride. Anthony was an avid sports enthusiast. In high school, he was a standout basketball and baseball player. He never lost his love of athletics and supported his sons’ participation in hockey, baseball, and swimming. He volunteered as a baseball coach for his nephews in Willow Glen. He was a passionate Sharks fan and could often be found in section 112 of the Shark Tank. As an outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, hiking and water sports. Anthony was also a skilled photographer with a great eye for composition. Anthony was born in Fort Bragg, California on August 27, 1964. He graduated from Fort Bragg High School in 1984 and from San Jose State in engineering technology in 1990, where he was active in Theta Chi fraternity. He started his career in the building industry shortly thereafter. Anthony married Deirdre Boyle, the love of his life, in 2003 and soon after learned the joys of parenthood with the birth of his sons Caden (2005) and Shane (2008). He is also survived by his devoted mother Jean Ghiossi (San Jose), brother Richard Ghiossi (San Jose), and sisters Patty Ghiossi (New Orleans) and Nancy Painter (Walnut Creek). He will be sorely missed by the extended families of Sonia Boyle, Leo Boyle, Brigitte Sly, William Wilber and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Ghiossi and brother-in-law Tony Sly both in 2012. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him through every facet of his life. Memorial service (rosary and mass) will be held at St. Francis Cabrini in San Jose, CA at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 17th. The family suggests donations to foodforthepoor.org or to the education fund established for his children. Donations to the education fund can be sent to Deirdre Ghiossi, P.O. Box 54328 San Jose, CA 95154.
