Tony passed away peacefully after a huge celebration of his 90th birthday on Sunday March 4th. He was born to Mary and Frank Cancilla in San Jose CA. As a young man, “Lefty” enjoyed playing baseball on several neighborhood teams. He honorably served in WWII in England, Germany, and France and was involved in the Normandy Landing. Upon his return, he married his sweetheart Sue LaDucca and they were married for over 50 years until her death in 1998. Tony is survived by his loving daughter Mary Ellen Cancilla of San Jose CA and his loving son Frank Cancilla of Los Angeles CA. He was the loving brother of the late Ann R Taormina, Joseph S Cancilla, and Theresa R Rancadore. He is also survived by his adoring sister Maria G Bandy, his goddaughters Tonette Slaviero and LeAnna Pritchard, his devoted nephew Mark Taormina, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends, and neighbors. He was an active proud member of the Sons of Sicily, the Sons In Retirement, and the Society of Italian Americans. He was employed at Westinghouse for over 30 years. Tony was an avid gardener, to the benefit of all who knew him. He was a man of extreme honor and integrity and until the very end, loved to tell his numerous jokes. (“If you want day old bread, come back tomorrow”). He will be loved and missed by each and every one of us.
