Jean McGinn, born Regina Theresa McGarrity, went to be with our Lord, her dear family and loving friends on October 18, 2020. Jean’s final days were filled with love and laughter with her children by her side.
Jean was born on April 21, 1934 to Jean and Bill McGarrity in Philadelphia, PA, and was big sister to her brother Bill. As a young woman, the sports bug bit her bad. She enthusiastically played basketball at St. Leonard’s Academy in West Philadelphia and went on to cheer for all her Philly pro teams. Jean loved to entertain and have a good time wherever she went. Nothing got her on her feet throughout her life like dancing to “Mummers” music.
Her first job was at General Electric like her mom. Soon her world would change when she met the love of her life, the young Marine pilot, Bill McGinn. Between Bill’s military career and later as a Scott Paper Sales Executive, they traveled and cruised the world. Jean and Bill were blessed with four children, and by 1974 they had already lived in Philly, Cherry Pt, NC, Strafford, NJ, Seattle, WA., Dallas, TX, Cleveland, OH, and finally in Southern California with many dogs in tow.
Jean poured her heart & soul, and time and talent into her energetic Catholic family. Nurtured by her love, the family thrived into a vibrant successful clan. She loved her family, friends and sports teams, and it was a regular occurrence on weekends to host a football watching party. She never missed an opportunity to decorate her home for the holidays, especially St. Patty's Day. After Bill and Jean retired to Oceanside, CA in 1998, together they found a whole new life of fun with the Oceanside Newcomers Club. Being the ultimate event and party planner, Jean was asked to lead this large dynamic group as their president.
Like in life, Bill always went ahead to our next home to prepare it for his family’s arrival. Today is no different. Bill has been patiently waiting and now, he has welcomed his bride home with open arms.
Jean is survived by her devoted children, Jeannie, Bill Jr. (Marianna), Michael (Sheri), and Kellie Lowe (Bryan). Jean was blessed with eight awesome grandchildren, Ryan, Patrick, Colleen, Mikey, Mary Rose, Bill, Camden, and Brent, as well as her many godchildren.
Whether you called her Mom, Nannie, Aunt Jean, Mrs. McGinn, Jeanie, or just Jean, she will be dearly missed by all who were blessed by her special presence in their lives.
