Dr. Ned Stephen Khorey, born on May 9, 1928 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. On Easter Sunday morning, April 12, 2020, Ned, 91, passed into eternal life, quietly in his sleep and at his home in Newport Beach, California.
Ned is survived by his three daughters, Loretta Khorey, Elizabeth Khorey and Ann Khorey Minch, his son-in-law Stanley Minch, and his grandchildren, Benjamin and Phoebe Minch.
Ned was the third of four children of Amelia and James Khorey, immigrants to America from Syria. His siblings survive him, Abraham, Adele, and Fred Khorey.
After their father’s death when Ned was a young boy, he and his siblings were raised by their mother, grandmother Elizabeth, and Uncle Anthony. Ned attended Latrobe High school and was a natural athlete, excelling in many sports including Varsity football, basketball, and tennis. He also excelled in academics and was loved by many. His closest friends included Arnold Palmer and Mr. Fred Rogers.
The Khorey’s neighbor was a chiropractor. In high school, Ned sprained his ankle in basketball and was told he could not finish the season. He visited the chiropractor who set his ankle and Ned returned to play the rest of the season. This impressed him and shaped a vocational path in the healing professions.
After completing his Bachelor of Science degree in 1950 Ned’s uncle encouraged him to enter medical school which he did but later enrolled at Palmer Chiropractic College, Davenport, IA. Ned met and married Barbara Ann Molthen, a native Californian, at Palmer C.C. After graduating in 1953, Ned became a medic in the U.S. Army.
Ned and Barbara moved to Southern California in 1956. By 1957, Ned opened his chiropractic practice in Old Town Orange where he practiced for 60 years, serving and healing thousands of people until retiring in 2017. Some have called him a “chiropractic legend.” He was gifted by God and stewarded his gifts with generosity and compassion.
Ned’s favorite moments in life were being with his daughters and grandchildren. He often said his “heart” was his girls and grandkids. He was an avid golfer, a member of Santa Ana Country Club and his weekly pleasure was playing golf with his buddies! His friendships were numerous; everyone was a friend to Ned.
Ned had a quiet faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; was raised in the Eastern Orthodox Church; in his later years, worshiped at Mariners Church, Newport Beach.
Ned was a man of great empathy, fun-loving, full of life and compelling charisma. He was a faithful, adoring father and grandfather. His generosity to family, friends and his service to his community touched and changed lives. He will be deeply missed.
Ned Stephen Khorey will be buried on Thursday, April 23, 2020 in a private service at Fairhaven Memorial Park, Santa Ana, California. A memorial service to be announced in coming months.
