parents were Leslie Herbert Davis , born in Raton, New Mexico, and Margaret Josephine Comer
born in California. Lester passed away on April 1, 2019 from congestive heart complications, in
Orange ,CA. As a child he lived his early years in Orange, CA, up to the 4th grade, when the
family moved to Tustin, CA. In Tustin, Lester attended elementary through High School, and
was a proud member of Tustin High School ’s Tiller football team. Being a Co- Captain of the
Tiller Football Team, he played tackle and guard positions, plus lettering in track. After high
school, Lester enlisted in the Navy due to his love of the ocean and he wanted to see the world.
During his two years in the Navy, from 1946-1948, Lester saw the lights of Honolulu ,then it was
decommissioning battle ships on the Columbia River in Oregon. Lester was given the honor of
being accepted to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; but he chose an academic career,
and went on to become an educator. Lester met Jean Louise Spielman in a biology science class
at Santa Ana College. They started to date in 1950, and were married on July 1, 1951. This
upcoming July 1, 2019 would have been their 68th Wedding Anniversary.; after living in their
same house for 63 years, on Fairbrook Lane, Santa Ana.
After Santa Ana College, he went to Whittier College and graduated with his B.A degree
along with his teaching credential. Student teaching in Buena Park School District led him into
the teaching in the classroom for 3 years; then he became a school Principal for his entire career
of 34 years; 1952-1986; all spent with the Buena Park School District. Lester earned his M.A
Administration degree from California State University, Long Beach. He always lived and
worked by the mantra that if a decision is made in the best interest of the student, then it is the
correct decision. Upon retirement, he worked part time a couple of years from 1986-1987; for
the Buena Park School District; implementing computer attendance programing throughout the
district.
After being a school Principal, he enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. Being involved in
the leadership of Boy Scouts led to his interest in the Order of the Arrow, and Native American
silver and turquoise jewelry. Lester taught himself how to create beautiful silver and turquoise
jewelry pieces. Being so artistic, he also built a whole model railroad town and created
mountains for his trains to travel through. Wood Carving would be his next talented interest,
after he took a wood carving class at Ganahl Lumber. He went on to carve lifelike ducks, and
Kachina dolls. For 10 years he entered Wood Carving Shows all over Southern California, and
never came home without a Blue Ribbon. In his most recent years he painted watercolor
paintings. He took up archery in the last year of his life, after watching archery videos on the
internet, and being able to go to the archery range a couple times. He loved nature and being near
the ocean and the mountains. Our Father was a forever learner
Above all, he loved his family. Family meant everything to him. He always loved his
family and he took pride in them. He is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Susan, son Mark,
son in law Steve, grandsons Scott, Jeff, John, and great -granddaughter Amira.
