Jo Ann Dickinson, 88, passed away on April 21, 2023. Born Jo Ann Elizabeth Paetz in 1934 in Muscatine, Iowa, to parents Linda and Hugo Paetz, she graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1956. Jo Ann married the love of her life, William Dickinson, that same year.
She taught 7th and 8th grades at Homewood-Flossmoor middle school in Illinois for four years before starting her family. She is survived by her husband, Bill, her two sons, Bill Jr. and Bruce, and Bruce’s wife Sara and three wonderful granddaughters, Anna, Ruthie and Abby.
Jo Ann was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and was a great listener with much wise advice. She loved to travel, and early in her life she heard and then adopted the slogan, “See the world before you leave it.” She was very successful in achieving that goal.
Jo Ann and Bill in their married life lived in Park Forest, Ill., Flossmoor, Ill., La Canada, Calif., Fort Madison, Iowa, Olympia Fields, Ill., Arcadia, Calif., Dallas, Texas, and finally Santa Ana, Calif. Jo Ann was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana.
She requested a small private celebration of life service.
