Howard was a proud California native. He resided in the golden state throughout his life except when serving in the Navy during the Second World War and when his calling as a tireless world traveler took him to foreign destinations. He also was awarded a degree in horticulture at the University of California, Davis, class of 1951.
Howard was guided in life by his love of nature as manifested in both his personal passion and his professional career. His work of 37 years with the Orange County’s Department of Agriculture was his enduring contribution to the upkeep of the beauty and health of the land he had cherished all his life. His love of God’s creation and desire to grow and sustain life were made visible in the home garden that he held close and dear to his heart.
Howard was a man with joy in his heart, a beautiful soul who easily touched those who found in his kindness and friendship a true blessing to celebrate.
Howard is survived by his beloved companion Nelson Ocampo, his brother Allen Garrett and his sister Lois Corrigan. He also leaves behind his nieces: Janice, Kathy and Mina as well as his nephews; Donald and David. Howard was preceded in death by his brother Glenn Garrett.
