Erika Maria (Salditt) Brown died peacefully at home on October 3, 2020 surrounded by her children. Erika was married to her husband Henry for over 50 years before his death in 2016. She was a selfless mother to five beloved children: Miriam and her husband Jorge, Tormay and his wife Rosemary, Daniel and his wife Pei-San, Aaron, and Joseph Sebastian. A life-long learner who never brought attention to herself despite her extraordinary list of accomplishments, Erika received her undergraduate degree from St. Mary Notre Dame and her graduate degree in comparative literature from UC Berkeley. She then went on to earn a teaching credential, a Professional Catechist Certificate from the Diocese of Orange, a Certificate of Authorization as a Special Minister of the Holy Eucharist, and a remarkable 102 college credits in fine art. Even as a busy young mother in the mid- 1970s, she went door to door to collect money for the March of Dimes and volunteered to teach English as a second language to the first wave of refugees fleeing to America from war-torn Vietnam. Later in life, she taught English as a second language for over 20 years to immigrants at Trinity Church in Tustin. She also hosted Bible studies in her parish, taught religion at Marywood High School, and earned the highest respect as a talented drawing and watercolor instructor at the Tustin Adult Education Center for 23 years Her tireless compassion, self-sacrifice, and dedication to others brilliantly reflected her humble obeisance to the will of Christ. She will be remembered as a gentle and guileless soul who emptied herself completely for the welfare of others. Erika’s funeral mass will be live-streamed on Saturday November 14, 2020 at Fairhaven Memorial park followed by a graveside service.
