Dean William “Bill” Carr, Jr., age 87, passed away February 27, 2018. Born on December 14, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to Dean William Carr, Sr. and Elizabeth Pinkerton-Carr. He has two older sisters, Janet and Doris. The family moved to Santa Ana, California during WWII. Bill attended Santa Ana High School, serving as senior class president in 1949. Bill actively participated in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of California-Berkeley with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business Administration. Bill remained a lifelong Cal Bears booster and enthusiastic fan. While at Cal, he was enrolled in the Berkeley ROTC program and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force upon graduation. He served two years active duty. After his military service, Bill pursued a career as a stock broker and financial advisor. He took pride in the professional care provided to his clients, earning their respect and the respect of his peers due to his exceptional integrity and honesty.
Weekends would often find Bill hiking and camping in the California mountains and deserts. A strong advocate for wilderness areas, he was a member of the Sierra Club and was a volunteer Ranger for the San Bernardino National Forest Service. Bill was a long-standing member of the Newport Beach Tennis Club. He was an accomplished skier as well, participating in the Masters Ski Race Series throughout the West. He was an accomplished high-power rifle marksman and competed in several National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio.
As a son, brother and uncle, Bill was exceptionally devoted to his family. Bill’s constant care, love, and sheltering support was felt by all his family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Doris M. Rice and his nephew Howard Rice, Jr. Bill is survived by his sister Janet E. Davis, his nephew Paul D. Rice (Rhonda), his nieces Cindy L. Cook and Cathy A. Akins (John) and their families.
Funeral services will be held for Bill on Friday, March 16th at 12:00 pm (noon) at the Waverly Chapel, Fairhaven Memorial Park, located at 1702 Fairhaven Ave. Santa Ana, California. Bill will be interned at the National Cemetery located in Riverside California.
