Cynthia Rosa Espino, 37, of Riverside, California passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. She was born in Santa Ana, California on January 24, 1984 to Martin Espino and Maria de Rosario Espino. She grew up with her younger siblings, Esteban and Vanessa. As a child, she enjoyed playing soccer, drawing, writing poetry and roller-skating.
Cynthia attended Rubidoux High School and graduated in 2002. She went on to attend The University of California Riverside and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Cynthia was a full time student and worked as a paralegal for an immigration law firm. In her free time, she enjoyed painting, hiking and being in nature, discovering new foods and restaurants, TV shows and spending time with her daughter Lorelei.
Cynthia was Roman Catholic and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Jurupa Valley. She received her sacraments at St. John’s and was involved in taking her daughter to Catechism there. She had a passion for Native American studies, the LBGTQ+ community, social justice, civil liberties, civil rights, equality for all and her beloved family. Cynthia enjoyed traveling to Mexico City to visit the pyramids, Guanajuato to see the mummies, and to Carmel, California to see the Hearst Castle.
Cynthia fought a brave battle against cholangiocarcinoma cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Lorelei Sophia Betancourt, her parents, Martin Espino and Maria de Rosario Espino, brother, Esteban Martin Espino, sister, Vanessa Marie Espino and her dog Lia.
