Carolyn was born Carolyn Jane Hawkins on November 10, 1926 in Long Beach,
California to Constance Price Hawkins of Illinois and Clarence Hawkins of Colorado.
She grew up in Long Beach, lived in Belmont Shore as a teen, and finally settled in
Huntington Beach. As a young girl, Carolyn survived many illnesses, the 1933 Long
Beach Earthquake, and World War II. She graduated from Wilson High School in Long
Beach in 1943. During the war, Carolyn worked in a civilian position as a secretary for
the US Navy. She also attended Long Beach Junior College where she met her
husband, Paul Monroe, whom she married in 1946. They were married up until his
death in 2013. Carolyn had three daughters Kathleen Lynn, Sandra Susan, and Heather
Ann, and was active in their school and Sunday school activities as they were growing
up. She loved spending time with family and enjoyed many vacations, cruises, holidays,
and get-togethers with her children and grandchildren. A lifelong Californian, Carolyn
loved the beach and Disneyland and continued to visit both right up until the end. Her
favorite place in California was Yosemite, where she had spent summers camping as a
child. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Phyllis, and her husband
Paul. She is survived by her three daughters, Kathy Monroe, Sandy Brown, and
Heather Monroe, two grandchildren Amie Buck and Jeffrey Brown, and four great
grandchildren Emma Jane Buck (19), Samuel Buck (16), Ella Brown (10) and Lauren
Brown (8). We will all miss you dearly.
