Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1933 to Charles and Minnie Sheldrake and the eldest to Ed Sheldrake, Billie Todd and Susan Vellutato.
Betty was raised on a farm but when an opportunity presented itself, she left the farm for the big city and began her career by becoming one of the first female flight attendants for Bonanza Airlines. Her dream was to travel and see the world.
After a successful career with the airlines, she met William Robert Lee Sims and married him six months later. Bill and Betty settled in Garden Grove, California in 1958, started their family and opened Simco plumbing. They worked together to not only build but maintain a successful business for over 30 years until the passing of Bill in 1989.
She was the grandmother to Karen and Bill Lentz’s children; Jacob, Kyla and Karissa, Bob and his wife Susan’s children; Katrina and William, Gary and his wife Cynthia’s children; Monica, Paizley and Dezi, and Scott and Janelle’s child; Adeline.
Betty’s greatest joy was her involvement with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives. She was very proud of her family. She was a great friend to many, and she was a caretaker to several friends and family members. Betty had an innate gift to engender friendship with anyone and provide a sense of solace to those in need.
Betty’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure…she was loved beyond words and she will be missed beyond measure.
Arrangements under the direction of Fairhaven Memorial Park Mortuary, Santa Ana, CA.
