Ruth Green Collins, age 91 of Lake Mary, Florida, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday March 29, 2023, and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior. She was born September 16, 1931 in Dillon, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa Cook Green and Daniel Green, as well as her brothers and sisters, Jimmy Green (Maxine), Homer Green (Pauline), Maggie Green Christmas (Hilma, deceased), and Helen Green Stewart (Nick, deceased). Her husband, Levern “Bunk” Collins, who was the love of her life, also predeceased her. They lived on a beautiful farm in South Carolina until they moved with their three children to Orlando, Florida in 1970. They were happily married until his death in 1987.
Ruth was a beautiful loving wife, wonderful mother of 3, grandmother of 5, and great-grandmother of 12. She was a Christian and faithful worshipper of the Lord attending church regularly for most of her life. She took her children to church so they could come to know Jesus and accept Him as their Savior as she had done. She was very smart, enjoyed being a homemaker, and both she and her husband were amazing cooks and they loved cooking together for family and friends. They spent lots of time celebrating birthdays, holidays, and just being together. After the passing of her husband, she moved in with her oldest daughter Brenda and her family, so she always had family close by. She had a beautiful suite adjacent to Brenda’s home, and her other children visited often. She loved visits with her family, and they remain a close-knit family. She spent lots of fun times with her church friends at church events, playing Skip-bo with them, going to movies and out to eat with family, and watching TV.
She is survived by her son Richard Collins (Charlotte) of Apopka, Florida; daughters Brenda Collins Lytle (Charlie, deceased) of Lake Mary, Florida; and Wanda Collins Chandler (Bob) of Sanford, Florida. Grandchildren: Daniel Collins (Amy); Brittany Collins Wheatley (Greg); Chaz Lytle; Kaylie Lytle Oppedisano (Paul); and Collin Chandler (Megan). Great-grandchildren: Austin Collins, Cooper Collins, Madeline Collins, Duke Lytle, Brock Lytle, Rylan Wheatley, Reece Wheatley, Mila Chandler, Christian Oppedisano, and Step-Great-Grandchildren: P.J. Oppedisano, Alyssa Oppedisano and Amanda Oppedisano. She has a few cousins still living that she kept in touch with. She also has many nieces and nephews who adored their “Aunt Ruth.”
A special thank you to the people with VITAS hospice who were so compassionate in her final days. The family will be having a private graveside Celebration of Life and Love service in the near future. Arrangements entrusted to Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Oaklawn Chapel.
