Richard was born in Faribault, Minnesota on January 12, 1937, to Joseph and Geraldine Roehrick. He was 1 of 3 children with an older sister, Marilyn, and younger brother, William “Billy”. He grew up in Faribault, and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School (grade school), and Bethlehem Academy (high school). He joined the Air Force to serve his country at the early age of 17. In 1957, he met Mary Elizabeth Coffey at an open house dance at Robins Air Force Base. A few months later they were married at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warner Robins, GA. They had 5 children, Rhonda, Richard Jr., Sonya, Nicholas, and Joseph, over the next 7 years. Richard and his family spent 2 Air Force tours outside of the US including, Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, and Wiesbaden Air Force Base, Wiesbaden, Germany. In his early years of the Air Force he served in Newfoundland, Labrador, and Greenland (Thule AFB), and was an Air Commando at Fort Walton Beach, FL. For the majority of his career, he served in war readiness planning and supply. His hobbies during his Air Force years were baseball, football, and track. He was an excellent athlete with baseball being his favorite sport where the big left handed slugger hit countless home runs. He also won the golden gloves as a boxer in his younger years prior to the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in 1974, and worked for Solon Company until retirement.
Through the years Richard and Mary had 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He was humble, loving, strong, compassionate, generous, and funny, and dearly loved God, his country, and family. His faith and honesty were above reproach.
Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Roehrick; daughter, Rhonda Mallard (Al); daughter, Sonya Roehrick; son, Joseph Roehrick (Beth); sister, Marilyn Noel (Kearby).
