He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday September 28, 1937. Richard graduated from High School and went into the United States Navy. He met Ruby Lauramore, his wife of 65 years at a truck stop in Macclenny, Florida while on military leave. After serving 22 years in the Navy, Richard had a career at Walt Disney World for 23 years. Then went on to Publix and Walmart where he finally retired.
Richard had a passion for collecting; baseball cards, stamps, comic books, anything Nascar, basketball, football and many other collecting “Hobbies” as we all know. He LOVED to go to spring training games with his family, especially the Atlanta Braves, and watching ANY baseball game on TV. In recent times he loved to watch “his soaps” with his love of his life, Ruby!
He was preceded in death by Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Payne (father), US Army Corps of Engineers, Grace Payne (mother); First Lieutenant Murray Payne (brother), KIA Korea US Army; Ruby Payne (wife); Cindy Towers (daughter); Richard “Richie” Payne Jr (son), US Navy & FAA Air traffic (ATC).
After losing his daughter, Cindy, Richard took Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He and Ruby were loyal members of Gracepointe Church in Sanford until they were both unable to attend, do to health reasons. “It’s in the Lord's hands”, was one of Richard and Ruby’s favorite sayings in their later years.
Richard is survived by Ruth “Rusty” Sellers, sister; Larry Payne (Sandy), son; Michelle Schauteet (Frank) daughter; Linda Payne (Daughter-in-law). Many grand and great children.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 10:00 am, October 24th 2024 , at GracePointe Church of the Nazarene, 421 Longwood Lake Mary Rd, Lake Mary FL 32746
