Norma was born in Townsville, Queensland Australia on April 30, 1927.
She was married to Robert Willard Hawkes on February 11, 1947.
Norma was a homemaker during World War II and beyond. She was an avid bowler, loved all kinds of card games, especially Gin Rummy. Throughout her life, she competed in several sports including basketball, track and tennis. She had a competitive spirit that served her well throughout her life.
Born in Australia on April 30, 1927, Norma, along with her twin sister Maureen, grew up in her home country until the age of 20. While there, she met Robert Hawkes, an Air Force pilot during World War II. Bob, as he was known by everyone, and Norma were married on February 11, 1947. While Bob continued to fly, Norma would travel by ship to America where she arrived on May 2, 1947.
Norma and Bob lived at Travis Air Base in California and Mobile, Alabama. However, they would spend most of their years in Warren, Ohio where they raised their four children. She and Bob would eventually move to Heathrow, FL in 1990 where they remained until both passed.
She enjoyed bowling and played in many weekly leagues with friends. Played bridge most Sundays with other couples they knew, but tennis became her true love. She and Bob played tennis together in Warren and continued to play several days a week after they moved to Florida. When she wasn’t playing, if tennis was on television, she never missed a match.
Norma and Bob enjoyed everywhere they lived and were known to organize the best neighborhood parties for their friends and families. They were both great lovers of people and always made sure that anytime someone new moved into their community, they were welcomed with open arms and did all they could to include everyone. If you knew her, you couldn’t help but love her and love being around her.
Norma and Bob were married for 68 years until he passed on April 26, 2015.
Norma would remain in their Heathrow home until November 2021 when she would move into her home at Oakmont in Lake Mary, FL where she remained extremely active and, like everywhere else, she made great friends. While there, she enjoyed bingo, wordle, ballroom dancing, wii bowling and so much more.
She is survived by daughter Sherryn M. Hay (Hawkes)widowed (Calvin Hay, deceased), daughter Rochelle N. Krok (Hawkes)and husband Richard Krok, son Richard W. Hawkes and wife Melissa Hawkes and son Robert T. Hawkes and wife Jennifer Hawkes.
Norma also had nine grandchildren. Christopher Ahern, Heather Hay, Megan Feindt (Hay), Sara Kopton (Mayer), Dana Lacefield (Mayer), Randy Krok, Travis Hawkes, Tyler Hawkes and Chandler Hawkes.
She also had seven great grandchildren, Makenna and Chase Ahern, Henry and Harper Lacefield and Reid, Addison and Charlotte Feindt.
Her Australia family included twin sister Maureen and husband Ray Adler (deceased), their sons Greg (deceased) and Larry. Also, her cousin Pam Brown (deceased), her children Richard, David and Cassandra Brown and their children.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00am at Oaklawn Cemetery on Friday May 10th. Location 4991 CR 46A, Lake Mary, Florida 32746
