Born in Seminole County, FL on October 4th of 1926, Melvin Spivey was raised in the Christian home of his loving parents, Dan and Nanny Spivey. The seventh of eight children, he was the last surviving sibling.
Melvin was a sergeant in the U.S. Army. While serving in Korea, he was also a cook for the troops. After he was discharged, he returned home and married Doris LeGer. Both Melvin and Doris placed great importance on their faith in God and sharing that faith with others. Together, they raised their four children in a home surrounded by love and Christian values, much like his own as a child. Melvin and Doris were married for 58 years when she was called home to God.
Melvin lived in the Lake Monroe area, and was a faithful member of the Sanford Church of the Nazarene. He was a carpenter and worked Civil Service on the Sanford Naval Base, Parris Island, SC, and The Orlando Naval Training center. Because of his hardwork and dedication, he received many letters of commendation at every military base he worked.
Affectionately known as Pop to friends who became family, he always made those around him feel welcome and loved. Good-natured and fun-loving, Melvin never let an opportunity go by to prompt smiles and laughter. A kind-hearted, loving, and generous man, he was a wonderful father and grandfather.
He reached out with love and faith to everyone, including strangers, as he answered every call with the same message. Let there be no doubt that this would be his last message to us all:
Good night
God Bless you
I Love you
Jesus Loves you!
On October 10th of 2022, Melvin was called home to be with his loving wife, Doris. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by Son-Buddy Spivey(Ann) Daughters-Carol Burfield (George)Darlene Grooms(Eddie) and Sharon Hall. Six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four great/great grandchildren.
Memorial will be held at Baldwin Fairchild Oaklawn Sanford on Friday, October 28 at 10am.
