It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juan Onaindia, who left us peacefully on March 5, 2025, at his home in Longwood, FL, after a courageous battle with ALS. Born on February 16, 1966, in Durango, Spain and raised in Markina, Spain, Juan was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, remembered for his kind, loving, and caring personality that touched the lives of all who knew him.
Juan’s remarkable journey brought him to the United States at the age of 18, where he began his career as a professional Jai Alai player. After many successful years in the sport, he transitioned into the field of information technology, where he excelled as an IT specialist and later as an IT manager at AdventHealth. His dedication and passion for his work were evident in all that he accomplished.
Above all, Juan was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Shelly Heldreth Onaindia; his sons, Alexander Onaindia (Mallory) and Adam Onaindia (Lauren); his daughter, Kristina Onaindia; his adored grandsons, Jay Onaindia and Hudson Onaindia; and his brother, Alberto Onaindia. He was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Natividad Onaindia.
Juan’s legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of Juan’s life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Baldwin Fairchild Oaklawn located at 5000 Co. Rd. 46A in Sanford, FL 32771. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 PM with the service following at 3:00 PM.
