John "Jack" William Scruggs Jr., age 87, of Lake Mary, Florida, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021. Jack was born on May 25, 1934, in Danville, Virginia, to the late Miriam and John William Scruggs.
Jack earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida after graduating from George Washington High School in Danville. He then honorably served his country in the United States Army. Upon discharge, Jack returned to the University of Florida to complete his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. He spent his career working as an attorney in eminent domain and assisting in developing roadways throughout the state of Florida. He was a proud member of the Florida Bar for over 50 years.
Jack was an intelligent, caring, and determined man who faced life's adversities with remarkable resilience. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and enjoyed sitting at his table engrossed in one of the many books that lined his home's shelves. Jack's passion was travel so he could learn about and interact with different cultures. He and his wife, Elizabeth, were blessed to traveled extensively throughout the world, enjoying many adventures together. Jack loved the outdoors and was especially fond of mountains, deer hunting, collecting walking sticks and other treasures wherever he went. He had a keen sense of fashion and took pride in always being a well-dressed man.
Jack is predeceased by his parents and his dear son, William "Bill" Scruggs.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Elizabeth Scruggs; her children, Michael Gregory, Lisa Arato, and Anne Watkins; his sister, Ruth Alman; two grandchildren, Rachel Archer and William "Will" Scruggs II; five step-grandchildren, Henry Arato, Saxon Watkins, Anna Arato, Keiley Gregory, and Cheyanne Watkins. He loved talking with his grandchildren, asking them about their lives and giving them his advice about life. Jack took great pleasure in knowing he was a great-grandfather to Rachel's children Seth, Elsie, and Caedmon. Numerous extended family members and friends will also cherish his memory.
Jack leaves a tremendous legacy. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all.
