Joanne Helen (Horst) Sayre

Joanne Helen zurHorst Sayre, beloved Mother, Nana and Great Nana, passed away at the age of 88, in Winter Park, Florida on August 5th, 2022 surrounded by the warmth and love of her daughters and granddaughters.

Joanne was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Herbert and Helen Horst on October 26th, 1933, their only child. Finishing at the top of her high school class she went on to obtain a degree in chemistry from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She practiced as a municipal chemist in the City of Richmond where she met her would be husband of many happy years, fellow chemist, Robert Earl Sayre (1922-1986).

Together they raised three beautiful daughters, Barbara Joanne, Patricia Alice and Nancy Lynn, who they loved dearly throughout their lives.

Joanne was an avid reader, card player, and world traveler. A longtime resident of St. Augustine, Florida, much of her life was spent at the beach surrounded by her friends and family, enjoying their company with games and good wine.

Always available to lend a listening ear or refuge from a storm to her granddaughters, her invaluable counsel will be greatly missed.

Joanne’s life and memory is forever cherished and held closely by her daughters, their spouses Abu Shaharier (1956-2018), Robert Ward (1952-2010), and Thomas Misencik, granddaughters Megan Larkin (Nicholas Larkin), Caitlin Clarke (Neil Clarke), Stephanie Chapman (Peter Chapman), Emily Ward, and Elyse Misencik (Patrick Misencik), great grandchildren Lilia, Mae, Tyler Jo, Forrest, and Oliver, as well as many friends, and neighbors.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 25th at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Lake Mary, FL.

Refreshments will follow for those who wish to remember Joanne with her family.
