Pat was born on June 26, 1945 in Lexington, North Carolina. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1963, then enrolled at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Before completing his studies at Wake Forest he joined the United States Army and was stationed with the White House Communications Agency in Washington, D.C., where he met his future wife, Barbara. He completed his undergraduate degree at Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina, received his Masters degree from Bowie State College, Bowie, Maryland, and a Specialist in Education degree from Stetson University, DeLand, Florida.
Pat and Barbara were married May 13, 1972 in Washington, D.C. They had one son, James Patrick McGinn, Jr., married to Kari, and five grandchildren, James Patrick McGinn, III, Matti, Michael, Maylee, and Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Ethel McGinn, and survived by his brother, Dan, and Sister, Linda Lancaster. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by both his family and many, many friends.
Pat and Barbara moved to Florida in 1980, where Pat was employed by the Volusia County School District and served as teacher and principal at several schools in the district. He was a devout Christian and served as teacher, deacon, elder, and other ministries at Deltona Alliance Church.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Deltona Alliance Church, 921 Deltona Blvd., Deltona Florida followed by a luncheon in the church fellowship hall. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation or to the Deltona Alliance Church.
