David Harold Evans, 84, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 14, 2016 after a short illness. He was born in Scranton, Pa. to his loving parents Gordon and Ethel Evans. While working for Westinghouse he resided in Pittsburgh, Pa.; Media, Pa.; and Lake Mary, Fla. since 1983. A 1950 graduate of Central High School in Scranton, he graduated with Honors from Lehigh University in 1954 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, and was awarded a Masters of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959. He served in the US Army Ordnance Corps as a First Lieutenant at the Seneca Army depot from 1956 to 1958. With the exception of his tour in the Army, Dave worked for Westinghouse Electric's Steam Turbine division from 1954 to 1992. In 1984 he was awarded the annual Westinghouse Order of Merit for his pioneering work in steam turbine flow analysis, and in 2007 was made a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in recognition of his work in the field. He also taught Thermodynamics at Widener University's engineering night degree program in Chester, PA from 1963 thru 1978. His third career was as a director and Vice President of Pinyon Environmental of Lakewood, Colorado. He enjoyed golf immensely, and played it regularly until he became ill, scoring several pars in a round with his son just before his 84th birthday. He was a devoted father who in retirement helped build his son's house in Virginia and functioned as both "ranch" foreman and "ranch" hand at his daughter's home in Colorado, remarking once on a trip home from a supply store that he never expected to be a "ranch hand", a job he enjoyed. As further examples of his varied skills, he also set up Pinyon’s first computer network, developed an automated billing system, and built their first equipment shed. Along with his wife Lois, he found happiness in working in the yard, and in delivering Meals on Wheels to seniors in Seminole County for the past six years. He was past President of the High Meadows Civic Association in Media, and the Hanover Woods Homeowners Association in Lake Mary. Dave is survived by his wife and partner of 60 years Lois Hite Evans; his two children, son David, and his partner Nguyet Truong, of Fairfax, Va., and daughter Lauren, and her husband Will Davis, of Lakewood, Co. His family was very important to him, and he is also survived by his sister-in-law Ann Hussing-Evans of Jacksonville, Fla., his sister-in-law and brother in-law Ethel and Jim McLallen of Titusville, Fla., his nieces Barbara Hineline, Debbie McGlynn, and Leslie Hume, and his nephews Pete McLallen and Donald Evans. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Edward of Stroudsburg, Pa., Donald of Waverly, Pa., and Gordon, of Scranton, Pa., and sister-in-law Velma Colan-Evans of Stroudsburg, Pa. The family has planned a Celebration of Life for Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2 PM at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel located at 5000 County Road 46A, Sanford, FL 32771. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in David H.
