surrounded by loved ones. Affectionately known as 'Sunshine' to family and friends, Daphne
was born in Browns Town, St. Ann, Jamaica, on August 5, 1930 to Michael and Ethel Bernard.
She met the love of her life, Stanley Pyne, in Kingston, Jamaica and they were married in 1956.
Determined to give her family better opportunities, Daphne stepped out on faith and immigrated
to the United States in 1967, with Stanley and their children following 2 years later. They made
Plainfield, NJ their home for the next 27 years with their five children: Pauline, Spencer,
Michael, Noel, and Janice.
Daphne had a passion for the health profession and while she raised her children, became a
Certified Nursing Assistant. She was employed with John E. Runnels Hospital and retired after
25 years. Seeking a warmer climate in their retirement years, Stanley and Daphne packed their
bags and moved to Deltona, FL in 1994, where they lived until she was called home to be with
the Lord.
As the family matriarch, she instilled strong values in her loved ones by teaching them to be
strong, kind, loving, and giving people. She gave her love freely, but also practiced "tough love"
when it was needed. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly looks like.
Daphne had a warm smile, selfless spirit, and a great sense of humor. She loved to shop and
was a ‘fancy’ hat connoisseur. She also enjoyed crocheting, singing and watching her favorite
sports. Her utmost favorites were family gatherings, watching religious programs and eating
mangoes; if she could have them all at the same time she was in Heaven.
A dedicated worshipper, she gave her gifts, time, and talents freely to Greater Refuge Memorial
Church. She was a Senior Missionary and participated in various ministries. The Church family
loved her dearly and affectionately called her Mother Sunshine.
The kind of love our ‘Sunshine’ felt for us was unconditional and she will be sorely missed.
Preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy Simmonds and Catherine Richards; she leaves
behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 64 years, Stanley Pyne; a devoted sister
Una Bernard; her children, Pauline Arthur (Erno), Spencer Pyne, Michael Pyne (Maureen), Noel
Pyne (Cheryl), and Janice Salmon (Len); 15 grandchildren,10 great-grandchildren and a host of
nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Daphne Pyne’s legacy of kindness, love, humor, and compassion will live on forevermore. She
will be laid to rest on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel and
Cemetery located at 5000 County Road 46A Sanford, FL, by invitation only. Viewing will take place
