Virginia Phillips Roney, age 86, passed away after a brief illness on September 2, 2020 in Conyers, GA. A native of Tuskegee, Alabama, she was the daughter of Sydney J. Phillips, deceased, and Virginia Hurt Phillips, deceased. She was preceded in death by her sister, Bettye J. Daniels. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Darrell Roney; four children, Patrice Masterson, Conyers, GA, Phillip Roney, College Park, GA, Andrea Penha, Taunton, MA, Stephen Roney, Snellville, GA.; two daughters-in-law, Diane Roney and Caroline Roney and one son-in-law, Eric Penha; and seven grandchildren, Tiffany Robinson, Nicholas Masterson, Jonathan Robinson, Kendall Roney, Courtney Roney, Madison Roney, and Sydney Roney. Wife, mother, teacher, and friend are the words that describe Virginia best. Her husband was the love of her life and she was the light of the family. Her husband and children were the center of her world. Her friends adored her; she made each of them feel like they were part of her family. She was a graduate of Fisk University and completed a Master’s in Education with an emphasis in special education from Rhode Island College. She taught social studies and special education and retired from the Providence School System in Providence, R.I. She had a natural “green thumb” and was a prodigious gardener. The life of our beloved wife, mother and friend will be celebrated at a graveside service at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA.
