Roscoe Cook, Jr. was born on March 2, 1939 in El Centro, California, to parents Roscoe Cook and Mamie Gentry. Roscoe graduated from the University of Oregon and earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts.
During his years, at the University of Oregon, he was a “star” track performer. He was recognized worldwide for his record holding performance in the 60 and 100 yard dash. Roscoe tied the world record in both races. In 2010, Roscoe was inducted into the University of Oregon Hall of Fame for his track and field records.
Roscoe was united in matrimony to Christine Pugh on December 23, 1982. They made an agreement, before marriage, to never mix Anniversary and Christmas presents or else there would be “trouble in the Cook household!“ Two years after the marriage, Roscoe forgot the agreement, and guess what happened!!
Roscoe had a long and successful career with Los Angeles County schools, serving first as a teacher and then as an administrator.
He was so blessed to have the love and spiritual support of so many friends and family. Roscoe’s H₂O brothers and their wives, and his church, St. James United Methodist Church meant everything to him.
Roscoe is survived by his wife, Christine V. Cook; 6 sisters, Sandra Kay Darden, Elaine McFadden, Rita Cook, Hanna Cook, Deborah Brown, and Jettiev Manning; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
