Kelly was born on November 16, 1952, to Mary and Robert (Bob) Fisher, Sr. in Atlanta, Ga, at Georgia Baptist Hospital. After Kelly graduated from Sandy Springs High School in 1971, he went on to study computer science at Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, Ga.
Kelly was forced into early retirement because of an aggravation to a brain injury he had received in a mini-bike accident when he was in the 8th grade.
Among Kelly’s fondest memories were his time as manager of the Sandy Springs Panther men’s basketball team under Coach Stan Moses, who continued to support Kelly throughout his life. The highlight of his managing days was the team’s win as state champions in 1968. Kelly was well known and loved by students and faculty in high school. Those friendships comforted Kelly the rest of his life.
Despite some physical limitations, Kelly did volunteer work at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, formally Scottish Rite Hospital. He was a mainstay volunteer at The TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
Kelly was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Sandy Springs, Ga., a congregation who supported Kelly through many of his times of hardship.
Kelly is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Bob Fisher, as well as sisters Patricia and Sally. He is survived by four nephews who live out of state.
Services will be held Monday, January 8 at 12 noon in the Sun Room at Mount Vernon Towers, 300 Johnson Ferry Rd, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
