On a fateful day in April of 1981, I sat in a waiting room of several young people waiting to be interviewed for a position with Delta Airlines as a flight attendant. This would be my third attempt at applying, and my friend from college, who was a flight attendant, had written a rather glowing letter to the employment office and had gotten someone in the office to ensure the letter would sit on someone's desk for consideration. As each person made their way out of the room to follow the next interviewer, I watched who would come to the door.  Pretty soon, all of them were gone and I was alone in the waiting room.  When the door opened and they called my name, I looked up to see that this person had not come before to the room while I waited.  He introduced himself as Barry and we walked to his office. His modest office had photos of his family, a comfortable chair and we sat down.  His first comment was about the letter and how much they valued employee recommendations.  Instead of an interview it was more like a welcome to the airlines and he said, if you see anyone outside, don't tell them you are going to the psychologist, no one in this group today was sent further.  I was hired the minute I walked into the door because Barry Noggle, the consummate Delta professional and a kind man, believed the letter from my friend, and having met me, felt good enough to hire me. I retired from Delta after 27 years and I can thank my friend and most especially Mr. Noggle for the wonderful life he gave me that day.  Great men are never forgotten.

I just saw this news on a Delta Air Lines website. Thank you for helping make our airline great. I remember Barry from flights through ATL. A gentlemen always . RIP Retired MSY F.A. Catherine Domangue

I can’t tell you how many times when crew members talk about being hired in the 80’s and 90’s Barry’s name gets mentioned every time with a big smile. He hired me out of LAX in 89 and I’m forever grateful for him. So sorry for your loss.

My deepest sympathies.  Mr.Noggle hired me as a Delta Air Lines company transfer very early in my career.  He provided wonderful encouraging words as a newbie with Delta and I appreciated his kindness and southern hospitality (my first exposure). 38 years later, my family and I have been blessed to enjoy the wonderful benefits this company offers.

I’m so very grateful to this man for hiring me in Honolulu almost 38 years ago.  I remember his warmth, humor, and easy way of putting people at ease.  Delta was starting to fly to Japan and was  looking for Japanese speaking flight attendants.  I told him I didn’t speak Japanese except for a few words.  He sat me down in front of that tape recorder anyway and told me to give it a try!  In spite of the blank tape, we went on to talk about other things and when all was said and done, he offered me the job.  
In making that decision, he single-handedly  gave me an amazing life!—the privilege of seeing the world we live in and meeting, serving, and caring for the people in it.  I’ve made lifelong friends and enjoyed the camaraderie that grew out of being a part of the fabric of Delta Air Lines.  I will always be grateful to  Barry Noggle for trusting me enough to offer me the job, which dictated the course of my life.  Thank you, his family,  for allowing him the time away from home that made it possible for him to conduct these interviews!  So many of us who were hired by him have fond memories of him and have remembered him over the years with gratitude and affection. 

May the blessing of having had him in your lives in even deeper and more profound ways be a comfort to you in the days ahead.

I have Barry Noggle to thank for a wonderful 44 year career (and I am still working as a flight attendant in ATL).  I remember the day I walked into his office and he interviewed me for the position of Flight Attendant and then I returned home and waited anxiously every day by my mailbox for a letter from Delta!!!  I was fortunate to be in the November 12, 1979 class!!!!!  He was truly a legend for our wonderful company and will always be remembered for his sense of humor, professionalism, and love of this company.  He leaves many of us with a lasting memory. It’s been almost 38 years and I remember that day like yesterday. 5/29/87. The day Barry Noggle stood up from behind his desk, congratulated me, and offered me a job as a Delta Air Lines flight attendant. 
I remember his gentle smile and the way he put me at ease during the interview.  He asked, very matter of factly, if I could loose 5 pounds to meet the weight requirement.  He wrote my height as 5’4” even though I was closer to 5’3” .  Maybe he included my 80’s hair.  Either way it gave me a little more weight check wiggle room. And a lot more confidence. He told me he was hiring Korean speakers and those that had a second language ,but he could use a few good English speakers too. 
I remember walking out of the Ala Moana hotel.  The sun hitting me on my face as I lifted it to the sky. I stood there just outside the door taking it all in.  I’m positive I floated  as I made my way  to my car. I remember rolling the windows down, turning up the music.  The first day of the rest of my life.
I’ve thought of Barry every time my Deltaversay rolls around. Always with warmth and gratitude.  The first man that believed in me. The man who gave me the world.

He was so friendly to me when he told me I had a job at Delta Air Lines 35 years ago.  It was in Los Angeles and  I had no idea how he would change my life that day. Rest in Peace Mr. Barry Nogel.

Barry Noggle was revered as a good friend by so many. His warm smile and infectious laugh, his sincere interest in others, his wonderful sense of humor, his mild temperament were some of his endearing and exemplary qualities. Barry often relayed his love, appreciation and pride in his Family and centered his focus arounf those  most precious to him. At Delta was and still is a Legend. Employees throughout the system talk about the wonderful day they were interviewed and hired by R. Barry Noggle. Barry was very special person, and I am so honored to say, "Barry was my Good  Friend" . Rest in peace, Dear Friend. God bless and comfort the Noggle Family.

Mr. Naber hired me at Delta Airlines and the rest is history. There is a story and it's a good one. He was funny and intelligent and understanding.

I worked with Barry at Delta and he had a thousand stories. He told be a story of accidentally being in the Honolulu Marathon but didn’t get a Tshirt. So I found I Honolulu Marathon Finisher Tshirt on eBay and mailed it to him so it could help tell everyone the story.

RIP Barry. Back in 1976 you made a life long dream come true. 48 years and still flying. Thank you for picking me a 20 year old Georgia girl and changed my life. You will be missed. 💕🛩️💕

I absolutely love this man.  There are so many memories of his laughter and ours!!  We shared hours hiring flight attendants over the years of a wonderful  career. He was the best at his position!, and he was the best at a long relationship with his friends! Everybody knew him! I’m going to miss him on this earth. He touched so many lives and hearts.   Rest in beautiful peace, Barry! I will love you forever, dear friend!

I can't imagine my life without haveing Barry in it the last 40+ years.  I'm a lucky man!

Barry was one of the most amazing people I ever had the opportunity to work with at Delta. He was so smart and funny! A true gem. He will be missed!

I worked with Barry in the Employment Office at Delta and he would often speak of his farm. One day I asked him where it was at and to my suprise he told me in Jackson County which is where I have family, and I knew exactly where it was. I visited him and his wife about four years ago at his farm.  So glad I got to see him and meet his wife.

Barry will always remain in my memory of being the first person of contact with Delta Airlines when I was hired as a Flight Attendant. 
He was warm, friendly and kind. 
He did want to see if I had a different full length picture for my file rather than the one of me in a bathing suit.  
When thinking back on being hired by Delta most Flight Attendants brought up his name as the person they remembered fondly in the hiring process.

To Barry's Family,

Our condolences to you.   You were lucky to have him for so many years and know him in a way we did not.   

So many of my Detla colleagues were hired by Barry, as was I.  He changed our lives forever.  Gave us  the best career, friends, and life!!  He interviewed us with humor, kindness, grace and professionalism.  When interviewing me, he  said, "it says here, you like to ski" and I responded, "yes, do you?" And we were off and running.  He probably wanted to see if I could hold and carry a conversation.  I had many occasions to run into him over the years and he was the same, kind man.  At our 197 7  Flt. Attendant graduation, we did skits  which poked fun at ALL the leaders at Delta.  We invited Barry to come.  When  asked  afterwards,  so what did you think?  He said "I'll be lucky not to be fired after this!" and we enjoyed a good laugh. I think he appreciated being asked by us to come - I hope so  anyways, b/c we owed a lot to him. and carried a deep fondness for him throughout our lives.  

May your memories give you comfort and peace.  We won't see his like again.  He was truly a very special man.   We hold you in our hearts ~

I’m so sad to hear of Mr Noggle’s passing.  He was a good man and dedicated, loyal member of our Delta family.  A legend, for sure!  I credit him for changing my life when he hired me to be a stewardess back in 1986, and will be forever grateful that he took a chance on me.   Even though it was a sad thing that brought us together that day, I’m happy that I was able to see him again, and hug his neck a few years ago at our friend’s Celebration of Life.  Rest in peace, Barry, and know you’ll always be fondly remembered.  ✈️

I was young and already working for Delta when I went to my interview for inflight with Mr. Noggle!  
Just so happened the electricity went out while I was there and he lite a candle!  Not sure why he had a candle but very glad he did, cuz I think I got the job because I looked better in candle light than fluorescence!
Thank you so much Mr. Noggle for giving the very BEST job ever……May 6, 2024 I will have 50 years with a really great company and my memory of my interview forever in my heart!!!!

I am saddened to hear of Barry’s passing.  I will never forget the moment that he stepped out of his office during my Los Angeles interview and called my name. 
In 1990, he took a chance on a barely 20 year-old South Texas girl  and changed the trajectory of my life forever. And for that, I will be eternally grateful. The Delta Family has definitely lost one of the absolute best. Thank you for sharing him with us all of these years. So very sad to hear of Barry’s passing. He was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor. He hired me in 1978 to In Flight Services with Delta. I always enjoyed when our paths crossed during my 35yr career. May God Bless him and those he left behind.

I went to West Georgia College with Barry.  Imagine my surprise when he was our bus driver from the old Doug Davis employee parking lot at Delta.  We then reconnected.  He was one of the good guys and one of the kindest people I have ever known.  From that day forward we always kept up with one another.  He even filmed videos at my retirement!  I am so saddened by this loss.  My prayers go out  to his family.  We have lost one of God's saints.  There is no question about where he will spend eternity.  I look forward to the day I can greet him again!

Barry hired me in 1972 as a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines … he was always the nicest person and true professional … he will be missed …

I will never forget the moment I met Barry. Little did I know then, my life was about to change when I accepted his job offer to come to work for Delta Air Lines. Throughout my 30 year career, I never heard but a kind or funny word about Barry. He was adored by many as he always made each of us feel so special. 
He was a good man, it was an honor and privilege to know him and work with him.

Barry hired me when I was 20 years old. He told me he was taking a chance but felt good about it and to not disappoint him. I stayed in touch with him for years thanking him over and over for giving me the chance of a lifetime. What an incredibly kind and graceful man. Condolences to his family, thank you for sharing Barry with all of us at Delta.

The True Gentleman!  Barry touched so many lives and launched many of our careers at DELTA. His welcoming smile, genuine care and heartfelt  kindness will forever be treasured.

To Barry’s family - we are very saddened to hear of Barry’s passing. He was an amazing gentleman. We first met Barry during his temporary assignment to Western Airline’s Personnel Office in LAX during the Delta/Western merger. Barry brought to us the true Delta family and culture through his wit and great sense of humor. He became a dear friend to all of us and a great mentor as we moved forward  through the successful merger.
