Born on August 1, 1940, Paula was a true Southern belle who believed that “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” This was how she approached her life - with excellence. She studied music at Winthrop College and subsequently taught music at elementary schools and gave piano lessons.
Paula gave her life to the Lord when she was a freshman in high school while she was attending an Oral Roberts tent revival. She was instrumental in leading her husband to the Lord, and she taught her children about the deep love of Jesus, which is available to all who seek to know Him.
Paula was married to her devoted husband, Herb, for 60 beautiful years, sharing a love that was an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they created a home filled with encouragement, kindness, and an unwavering support for one another. Paula had a fierce love and loyalty for her family and friends; she had several lifelong friends in other states, but she made sure to keep up with them by phone, letters, and visits.
She had an uncanny way of remembering names of people whom she had met months or years earlier, and thus made people feel welcome. She also had such a generous spirit to those around her, and she enjoyed trying to find the perfect gift or card for someone. Paula had an impeccable fashion sense, and she was an avid fan of competitions and sports, especially the Braves.
Paula is survived by her loving husband, Herb; her two children, Neel Stacy (Marie) of Deland, FL, and Nancy Copeland (Rick) of Marietta, GA; three cherished grandchildren; and her dear sister, Brenda Abernethy (Anthony) of Dallas, TX. Each of them will hold her loving memory in their hearts. A celebration of her life in the form of a graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 11 am at Arlington Memorial Park.
The family appreciates all expressions of sympathy - flowers, cards, and memorial contributions. Any donations given in Paula's honor can be directed toward either In Touch Ministries (P.O. Box 7900 Atlanta, GA 30357) or Johnson Ferry Baptist Church (955 Johnson Ferry Road Marietta, GA 30068). Paula resonated with the teachings of Dr. Charles Stanley with In Touch Ministries, and she enjoyed connecting with others through Bible study and fellowship at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.
She will be dearly missed.
