Mary Bolling Pless passed away on December 1, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father, James Glenn Bolling, her mother, Daisy Leona Bolling and her sister, Sue Ann Hensley. She is survived by her husband, Rex Thurman Pless, her three children, Douglas Glenn Pless, Susan Pless Flint and Patrick and Nancy Pless Line and Steve; and her grandchildren, Chase, Tinsley and Rex.
Mary grew up in Fountain City, TN and graduated from Central High School. It is there that she met Rex who later became her loving husband of 66 years. She graduated from the University of Tennessee where she was a Phi Mu. Her first love was teaching, and she taught elementary school for 10 years.
Mary was an active volunteer throughout her life beginning at the age of 14 teaching Bible School, going on to lead Brownies and Girl Scouts, teaching adults to read through Literacy Volunteers of America, acting as the first President of the Atlanta Athletic Club 9-Hole Golf Association, and in many more organizations. She was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church for 31 years, where she gave her time throughout the years on the Wedding Guild, as a Stephen’s Minister, in various roles with Presbyterian Women, on the Memorial Guild and on the Library Committee.
Mary was known for always being active and on the go, and she did not stop even as she bravely fought cancer in her final months. She enjoyed golf, bridge, traveling and was an accomplished painter. She was also an amazing grandmother who loved spending time with her three grandchildren. Her faith was a constant in her life, and she died at peace knowing she would soon be with her Savior. She will be dearly missed by those she left behind.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held on January 16, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the Kellett Chapel at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Thomas F. Chapman Cancer Wellness Center via Piedmont Healthcare Foundation.
