Martha Whatley Yates , age 93, passed away on April 22, 2017 in Cartersville, Georgia. Martha was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 6, 1923 to Oehler and Jewel Whatley. She graduated from Agnes Scott College in 1945 while awaiting the return of her husband, George S. Yates from serving overseas during World War II. They were happily married until his death in 1970. She was a talented and published author and had a successful career with the IRS until her retirement in 1988. She is survived by her children: Reverend Scott Yates, Mark Yates and his wife Sherry, Reverend John Yates and his wife Elaine, and her daughter Elaine Moore and her husband Jerry. She leaves behind seven grandchildren and three great- grand children. Funeral Services will be held at Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Home on Wednesday April 26 with a visitation at 10:00am and a chapel service to follow at 11:00am. Burial will follow the service at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
