Lyle L. Olson, 81, died on March 21, 2023, within hours of suffering a stroke. He was born in Hector, Minnesota on August 9, 1941 to Arvid Leonard Olson and Ethel Gretchen Wilhemette Savela Olson, and the first of their four boys. He graduated from his hometown high school in 1955, served in the U.S. Air Force as a weather observer from 1959 to 1963, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in business from the University of Minnesota in 1968.
Lyle married and moved to Mansfield, Ohio, where he and Adelia (Crouse) of Minneapolis raised four children. Lyle was employed as a hospital supply salesman and traveled the region extensively but always found his way home for his children’s sports and activities.
Once his children were grown, Lyle took up residences in states where he could be part of their families: living in Phoenix, San Diego, and Atlanta, and often returning to Mansfield and Columbus, Ohio. He made friends everywhere he went with his easy conversation and wit. He was an active member of church congregations in each community.
Lyle loved tennis and paddle sports throughout his life, and was on the tennis court just days before his passing. He also enjoyed bridge and card games. He had VIP tickets to the sports teams and arts performances that mattered most to him: all of the events that featured his children and grandchildren. Lyle was a voracious reader of spy novels, thrillers, and self-development books, checking out a stack of books from his local public library twice a week and taking online courses up to his last days.
Lyle is survived by: his children Lyle T. (Elaine), Columbus, Ohio; Mark (Debbie), Atlanta, Georgia; Scott, San Diego, California; and Joy, Mansfield, Ohio; his brothers Allen, Scottsdale, Arizona; and Jon (Chris), Boulder, Colorado; and his eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Lyle was predeceased by his parents and brother, Dale.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am on April 4, 2023, at Sandy Springs Christian Church, Sandy Springs, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, consider contributing to a charity of your choice.
