Born February 28, 1944 in China to the late Yuan-Yu Sun and Tien-Chieng Wang. Her family moved to Taiwan in 1949.
Lungchu graduated from the prestigious National Taiwan University in 1965 with a degree in psychology. She traveled to the United States for graduate school, where she initially enrolled at Portland State University but transferred to and graduated from Rutgers University with a Master’s degree in statistics in 1969. During this same year she married the love of her life, Dr. Shien Tsun Wang.
Later in 1969 Dr. and Mrs. Wang moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where Dr. Wang became a professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Kentucky. Lungchu was a wonderful mother to her two sons, Alan and Stephen. Lungchu was a very encouraging, loving and involved mother with her two sons. She very much enjoyed going to their soccer, tennis and football competitions and cheering them on. She was very proud of her sons and their accomplishments. As a full-time mother she worked as a part-time tax consultant. As her two sons got older, she worked full-time as a computer consultant and statistical support for the University of Kentucky. After decades of statistical support and consulting, Lungchu and her husband began to design and build their dream home, and in 2006 she retired from the University of Kentucky.
After her retirement, Lungchu enjoyed spending time outdoors. She enjoyed planting and cultivating her many fruit trees, shrubs and flowers. Lungchu was very meticulous in her flower garden and landscaping projects around their home. She enjoyed quiet time and was an avid reader of both Chinese and English books. She also enjoyed traveling with the love of her life. They explored many different countries, setting foot on six continents and cruising to dozens of countries and even around the world. Her favorite activity in retirement was being a grandmother to her beloved four grandchildren.
Lungchu showed unconditional love and support to her family and friends, always patient, generous and kind to all those around her. Lungchu was always a very positive, optimistic person and always gave sincere compliments to those around her, even strangers. She was very social and the center of gatherings. She was an exemplary co-worker, friend, wife, mother and grandmother.
Lungchu is survived by her two sons and two daughters-in-law, Alan Wang and Eleanor Ho, Stephen Wang and Nicole Hong; sister and brother-in-law, Ruen and John Townsend; brother and sister-in-law, Shu-Shen Sun and Hsiao-Huan Sun; brother Stanley Sun as well as her four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Shien Tsun earlier this year and her parents.
