Lonnie Gordon Simpson Jr. passed away on January 7, 2018 after a short illness. Lonnie was born in Holt, Alabama on November 16, 1919 to Lonnie Gordon Simpson Sr. and Myrtice Vivian (Sutton) Simpson. He served as a Captain in the Army during WWII ad was deployed to Australia for the years 1942-1945. Lonnie married Mary Marcelle Cobb in 1954. The wedding service was held at their beloved Sardis Methodist Church and were married 50 years before her death in June 2004. During their marriage both Lonnie and Marcelle were very active members at Sardis UMC. Lonnie continued in faithful service to Sardis until his death. Lonnie was also preceded in death by sisters, Meriam Phillips of Atlanta, Lucille Davis of Greensboro, AL, Sara Weber of Pennsylvania, and brother, Kenneth Simpson of East Point, GA. Lonnie is survived by an aunt, Malinda Sutton, 98 years old of Northport, AL, niece Mary Ann McMurry (Phillip), of Stockbridge, GA, with whom he has been residing for the last 10 years. He is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews, many great, great-great, and several great-great-great grand nieces and nephews.
