Linda Eldyne Borchers, age 74, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. She passed away from central nervous system lymphoma while surrounded by her family. A product of solid Midwestern values, she was born and schooled in Omaha, Nebraska and attended Midland College in Fremont Nebraska. She was happily married to Leon Borchers for 54 years. Linda was a great lady - bright, spirited, and spiritual. She was forceful and fiercely independent, but met people easily and engendered genuine friendship and trust with most. Linda firmly believed in living everyday fully – not looking to tomorrow. With this philosophy she thoroughly enjoyed many pursuits, including antique hunting, art collecting and, especially, travel abroad. A trip to her favorite destination, Italy, would sooth most problems in her world. She possessed impressive talents including a fine soprano voice and relished attending the Atlanta Symphony. Friends were able to enjoy her true gourmet cooking skills at her many dinner parties over the years or by sharing her breakfast rolls at Christmas time. In business, she built many lasting friendships as a successful real estate saleswoman for 30 years, finding homes and connection for clients in the Atlanta area. Linda was active in the community. A survivor of earlier lymphoma bouts, she enthusiastically enlisted family and friends to help fund lymphoma research. Linda was active on neighborhood boards and was a gadfly to elected officials when city or county services missed the mark. A woman of strong faith, her Church and Sunday School activity was extremely important to her until recent illnesses restricted her attendance.
Her father, Noel Fuglei, preceded her in death as did her daughter, Paula Borchers, at a young age. Linda is survived by her husband, Leon Borchers, two children – Julia Borchers and Michael Borchers, her mother Eldyne Fuglei and five siblings – Christie Peterson, Bud Fuglei, Kent Fuglei, Bruce Fuglei and Kay LaZebnik. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation, 115 Broadway, Suite 1301, NY, NY 10006. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 11 o’clock at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road in the Buckhead section of Atlanta to be followed by a visitation.
