After a valiant battle with cancer, Joe McCullough died at 76 years old on Tuesday February 13th. Born in Belfast NI, he graduated from St. Malachys Boys College and Borough Poly Tech. He worked in London as an Industrial Engineer for five years then came to the US and obtained his MBA from the Harvard Business School.
He worked briefly for Berkley & Co Fishing Tackle and US Industries before joining CRH/ Oldcastle where he worked the rest of his career, taking great pride in his part in the growth of that
company to its position as the second largest producer of building materials in the world.
He enjoyed an occasional game of golf and frequently coached his children’s sports activities.
After retirement, Joe and Mary Alyce traveled widely, visiting all seven continents. Joe served on several company boards and the local Chastain Park board. He valued his faith and was a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre and a lector and usher at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Family was paramount in his life and he planned wonderful vacations. Poker was a favorite diversion.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years, Mary Alyce, his daughter Dr. Judith McCullough of Atlanta, his son Eamonn and his wife Shannon of Johnson City Tennessee and his three grandchildren Eva Siobhan, Katrina Isabel and James Anderson.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family Friday from six until eight o’clock in the evening at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 404-851-9900. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, the 17th of February at two o’clock in the afternoon at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
