1939 –2024
John was born in Breckenridge, Minnesota in 1939 and passed at his home in Alpharetta, Georgia on January 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was known for and will be remembered for his love of God and family, his integrity and generosity, his strong work ethic, his sense of humor and his unfailing ability to laugh at himself.
He is survived by his wife Louise McDougall; daughter Amanda Wood; granddaughters Haley Walbrink and Jenna Wood; grandson Jackson Wood and sister Lois Pratt.
His son Kevin McDougall passed in January 2021.
Although his legal name is John, he was known as Jack throughout his life. He attended grade school in Doran and high school in Breckenridge and worked on the family farm growing up. This is where he learned to work hard, trust in God and be helpful to others. After spending two years in pre-engineering at the North Dakota State School of Science, he transferred to North Dakota State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He then went to the University of Washington to study Nuclear Engineering and received a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering.
Professionally, Jack had a successful career in technology and government defense business. He began his career by accepting an aerospace engineering job at Space Technology Laboratories (later named TRW) in Los Angeles, California. He worked at TRW until January 1972 when he accepted an engineering job at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in La Jolla, California which was a three year old high-technology company. In May of 1981, after working at SAIC for more than nine years, Jack and two other engineers founded Titan Systems (later called The Titan Corporation) a high-technology company focused on Government Defense Business and headquartered in La Jolla, California. Titan provided information and communication products, solutions and services for the Department of Defense, intelligence agencies, and other federal government customers. Titan grew very rapidly and traded on the New York Stock Exchange. In 1995, Jack moved to Alpharetta, GA. where he founded Business Solutions Group, LLC along with two other founders. Wanting to move away from Government Defense business, Jack focused on high technology work in the telecommunications area. This company was very successful and was sold in 1999. He then did consultant work through his company McDougall GP, Inc until retiring.
Jack had a life full of accomplishments, but the part of life he valued most was family. Jack lived a life of love, hard work and laughter. He was strong physically, mentally and spiritually. To his extended family, he was known as a practical joker, fun loving and kind. To his kids and grandkids, he was enthusiastic, encouraging and generous. He was up for whatever they wanted to do. He loved to see his kids smile. He wrote thoughtful notes and poems and enjoyed time with family immensely. Jack was an active person who enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing, tennis and golf, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife of 57 years, Louise. There is a huge hole in our hearts as a result of his passing.
