Randy is survived by his daughter, Jane Randolph Kolb; his sister, Melinda Fox Wheeler; nieces Mary Virginia Farmer and Mary Elizabeth Wheeler; nephews Andrew Tillman Tripp, Michael Thomas Tripp, and John (Jack) Tillman Wheeler; great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his cherished sister, Sue Kolb Tripp, and his loving aunt, Mary Tillman Fox.
Randy was born on April 10, 1948, to parents Ruth Virginia Tillman and John Harlin in Van Nuys, California. His father was a member of the Osage Nation, an American Indian tribe of the Great Plains. Randy lived in several locations in the south-central United States while growing up. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1971 with a degree in Accounting and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he lived until relocating to North Carolina in 2015.
Randy is remembered for his love for his daughter, who was his pride and joy, and for his loyalty and love for family and friends alike. He made sure Jane knew her many relatives and that she was part of his extended community of friends in Atlanta. Randy had a great sense of humor and could describe a situation or person with intensely funny wit. He was an avid tennis fan—both playing the game and watching tournaments year-round—and an accomplished horseback rider, having started as a child riding bareback. He paid particular attention to style and was always impeccably dressed. He was fun, charismatic, and extremely generous to those he loved. He remained true to himself to the end of his life. He is deeply missed.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia. A reception will follow immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Randy's name to Chastain Horse Park in Atlanta, GA, to support its Therapeutic Program.
