John Edwin Dilbeck of Cumming passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in Buckhead on August 18, 1928. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret English Dilbeck, and his first wife, Eva Echols Dilbeck and his stepson Steve Sherfey. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kathryn Dilbeck and his two children, Susan Dilbeck Turner (John), and Reverend Timothy M. Dilbeck (Karen) and by his five grandchildren, Eddie Turner, Katherine Turner, Ty Dilbeck (Caroline), Jonathan Dilbeck, and Hamilton Dilbeck. He is also survived by his sister Dianne Dilbeck Collier (Jim) and six nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by four of his five stepchildren, Sol Sherfey, Stephanie Soares, Scott Sherfey, Susan Sullivan and also by eight step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. Ed owned and operated Wieuca Cleaners and Laundry for 41 years. After retirement he had time to enjoy his favorite hobby…restoring antique automobiles, and he and his wife traveled extensively. He took great pride in the fact that he was a fourth generation Atlantan. He learned to play the piano at an early age and was the organist at the church where he grew up. Later he was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Atlanta, and his faith was very important to him throughout his life. His generosity knew no bounds and he never turned a blind eye when confronted with a need. He enjoyed music and enlivened many family occasions with his piano playing and wry sense of humor. His interests included real estate, home building and restoration, farming, cooking, antiques, and the beach. He was a much loved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Thursday the 5th of February at two o’clock at Patterson’s Arlington Chapel with Reverend Timothy M. Dilbeck officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family Thursday from twelve o’clock, noon until the hour of service at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
