In 1937, went to camp Pasquaney in New Hampshire, where his father had gone before him. Nick, his brother and all of Jack’s sons attended the same summer camp. It was here that he met his future wife, Iris Mitchell. Jack and Iris both played the camp bugle and would play Taps to each other every evening. He worked summers at the camp until 1949.
Jack graduated from Emory University at Oxford
In September of 1949 Nick Bolton and Jack went to England, bought bicycles in London, and spent weeks touring Oxford, Cambridge and Tunbridge Wells before returning to America.
Drafted in September 1950 into the US Army’s highly decorated 4th Infantry division. He served in Germany among other posts.
After service he enrolled in Columbia University in New York. While at Columbia he worked for CBS Television’s accounting department.
Jack married the love of his life, Iris Mitchell, in 1953.
After working for CBS for several years, he joined the Katz Agency eventually ending up managing the Atlanta office. He left the Katz Agency to start his own agency before retiring many years later.
Jack worked for many radio stations early in his career. Later he and his brother ended up owning two small radio stations.
After the loss of son Mitch, his wife Iris, with help sometimes from Jack, helped to form organizations that work toward suicide understanding and prevention.
Jack’s hobbies included singing in barbershop choruses, genealogy and family history.
He is survived by, his wife of 70 years, Iris Bolton. He is predeceased by his mother, father and son Mitch. Jack is survived by son and daughter-in-law John and Catherine Bolton, son, Bill Bolton, and son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Karen Bolton. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Sandy Spring Chapel, visitation will be Friday, March 10th at 6:00-8:00 pm
