Janie May Jones Thomas, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on July 11,2024 in Sandy Springs, Georgia, surrounded by her family. Janie was born May 29,1937 in Greeneville, Tennessee to the late William Wilson Jones and Elizabeth Heilman Jones.
Janie is survived by her husband Raymond Thomas, son Mark Thomas (Karen), grandsons Colin and Iain Thomas, and sister Christine Valentine of Newport, Tennessee.
Janie was a true southern belle, known for her grace, kindness and unwavering faith. Janie graduated from East Tennessee State University. Shortly thereafter she married the love of her life Raymond, with whom she shared 65 years of joyous companionship.
Janie’s role as a grandmother brought her immense joy and she cherished every moment she spent with Colin and Iain. In many ways she was more like a mother than a grandmother. They will forever remember her gentle spirit, unwavering love and support.
A service to celebrate Janie’s life will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, at H.M. Patterson Arlington Chapel on Allen Road in Sandy Springs, Georgia. The family will receive friends at 12:00 noon. Service at 1:00 p.m. Reception immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Janie’s memory may be made to the East Tennessee State University Foundation(Ray and Janie Thomas Scholarship Endowment).
Janie will be deeply missed by family and friends, who take comfort in knowing her spirit will live on through the countless lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
