After a long illness, due to chronic heart and Alzheimer's disease, he passed away at home on November 21, 2018.
After serving in the US Army as a military policeman, Mr. Appleby attended the University of Rhode Island. He moved to Atlanta in the fall of 1959 and was President of James F. Appleby, Inc. until his retirement.
Mr. Appleby was a member of the Cathedral of Christ the King and the Knights of Columbus, Council 660 and 4th Degree, Assembly 172. He was a supporter of many philanthropic causes. Jim was an outdoor man who loved fishing and hunting. But his passion was the water. He loved his power boat and sailing on Lake Lanier. He liked to "Saddle up and Ride" with his buddies down to the country.
Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jo Appleby, a sister Mary Deluise, brother-in-law Wayne Stockstill, sisters-in-law Nell Norwood and Jane Powe, and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Thursday, the 29th of November at 10 o’clock with a reception following. Monsignor Francis McNamee will be the Celebrant. A private family interment will be at Arlington Memorial Park.
