Harry Von Early Jr. was born on September 15, 1928 to Harry V. Early Sr. and Callie Leoma (Abercrombie) Early in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a graduate of Ensley High School and attended Birmingham Southern College and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Harry joined the United States Air Force in 1951 and served for four years as a radar technician on various aircraft in support of the mission of the Strategic Air Command (SAC). Following his honorable discharge, he returned to employment with Alabama Power and later worked for Southern Services as a support systems Manager until his retirement. He was a past president of Southeastern DX Club (SEDXC) under the call sign KC4M and was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Harry enjoyed a round of golf with friends, good food, a glass of wine from Wolf Mountain Winery, and a good book. When not playing golf, he enjoyed the experience of being an “armchair” athlete and followed the Atlanta Braves and the Alabama Crimson Tide (Roll Tide!). Harry’s soulmate and lifelong companion for 63 years was his wife Marilyn and together they raised their son, Harry V. Early III.
Following a short illness, Harry was received into heaven on July 27, 2015. He was predeceased by his parents, his son, and his sister, Mary Alyce Carpenter. He is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn, his sister Edna Rowe, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1100, Saturday, August 1, 2015 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel in Sandy Springs with committal ceremony immediately following at Arlington Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded.
Harry enjoyed the love and respect of his good friends and family and would ask that you remember him with a smile instead of tears; after all, as he would say, “I did it my way”.
