It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gregory A. LaRocca, formerly of Front Royal, VA, on September 30, 2014, at the age of 67 after a brief battle with glioblastoma multiforme. Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Jean F. LaRocca, and is survived by his sons, Christopher D. LaRocca (Orlando, FL), Dominick A. LaRocca (Pensacola, FL); father, Dominick X. LaRocca (Sandy Springs, GA); sister, Alice LaRocca (San Francisco, CA); brother, John R. LaRocca (Paulette) (Providence Forge, VA); nieces, Lauren LaRocca (Matt Diskin) (Gladstone, MI) and Teresa Hall (Hart) (New York, NY); a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins; and numerous friends. Greg had a big heart with a strong passion for life and people. His strong and friendly personality touched everyone who had ever met him. Greg was well known and respected in his life and will be sorely missed by many family members, friends and acquaintances. Sporting competition was a major interest of Greg’s. He was an avid golfer with a single digit handicap, and greatly enjoyed the competition and camaraderie with his golfing buddies at his Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Virginia. Greg was also a life-long, devoted fan of the NY Yankees baseball team. He got great joy watching the recently televised career-ending Yankee games for his favorite player, Derek Jeter, whose leadership and role model characteristics Greg greatly admired and espoused for his two sons. The family wishes to thank the devoted team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and support staff at the Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Baltimore and Atlanta. Greg’s family would like to especially thank the entire staff of the 2nd floor of The Eagles’ Nest Community Living Center at the Atlanta VAMC whose compassion and care enabled Greg to live his last months in peace and comfort. The kindness and support by these wonderful people deeply touched Greg and his family. The family would also like to thank everyone for their many thoughts and prayers during Greg’s final journey. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014, at Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 7171 Glenridge Drive in Sandy Springs, GA at 10:30 AM. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions may be made to the Atlanta VA Voluntary Services Department (notation: for “the CLC”), 1670 Clairmont Road, Decatur, GA 30033.
